Coroos is a Dutch family business with 60 years of experience in food preservation of fruit, vegetables and pulses. Our quality products find their way to consumers through the supermarkets of our European retail partners. From premium label to private label and basic products.
At Coroos we are constantly striving to keep our ecological footprint as small as possible. That is why we are always on the lookout for more sustainable packaging of our products.
In this challenge we are looking for better ways to improve our bulk packaging for catering companies and other food services. A growing part of our business consists of selling puree and ready-made sauces in large 5 - 20 liter packaging. The problem with the current packaging is that it is made from several different materials. This makes it difficult to recycle and the packaging is also not biodegradable.
Our bulk packaging is filled aseptically at our production line. In this process, sterilized pumpable foods are filled in a sterile aseptic big bag under sterile conditions. This produces shelf-stable products that do not need refrigeration. For the new packaging it is important that it can be filled in the same way. Therefore, the new packaging needs to have a cap that can be used in our aseptic production lines.
In this picture you can see the current packaging with cap:
In this challenge we are looking for more sustainable packaging for our big bag packaging. This packaging needs to hold liquids such as ready made soups, sauces and puree.
The new more sustainable packing:
- Need to have a cap and can be aseptically filled
- Can be used at the current filling lines
- Must be airtight
- Is more sustainable than our current packaging, this can include: less layers, easier to recycle and/or no single use plastic
- Preferably biological degradable
- Preferably packaging with an appealing look
